Construction Exempt from Governor Cuomo's Executive Order

Last night, Governor Cuomo signed Executive Order 202.6 which provides for workforce reduction, among other things, beginning tomorrow (March 20, 2020). However, in that executive order he listed Construction as an essential business. What this means is that our industry is exempt from these restrictions going forward.

In the letter issued by NYSBA to the Governor yesterday, it was noted that:

“The residential construction industry conforms to the highest safety standards, and in the current environment are following strict protocols when it comes to hygiene, protective gear, large gatherings, and safe distancing. Shutting down projects will only make it harder for New Yorkers to move into new homes and safe shelters that are needed now more than ever.“ It seems Governor Cuomo agreed.
