WILLIAM MOREHOUSE SCHOLARSHIP

Know a high school or college student studying residential construction? They may qualify to apply for the William Morehouse Scholarship, a matching funds scholarship facilitated by NYSBA's Research and Education Foundation and NYSBA's 15 local affiliates. 2020 applications are now being accepted and must be received at NYSBA REF by Friday, May 8, 2020.

The William Morehouse Scholarship is a "matching funds" scholarship program administered by the New York State Builders Association Research and Education Foundation (NYSBA REF). NYSBA REF, NYSBA and the fifteen local home builder associations affiliated with NYSBA are committed to improving the future of the building industry by creating educational opportunities for students, throughout the state. The William Morehouse Scholarship is available to all qualifying students across New York State.

The William Morehouse Scholarship was instituted to assist students who are entering a course of study SPECIFIC to the residential construction industry. Its purpose is to assist students in their pursuit of a career in residential construction and to provide employers in New York State with a strong, industry-qualified workforce.

Undergraduates who attend or planning on attending a one, two, or four-year College or certificate program and studying construction or related fields, are eligible for this scholarship.

A New York State Builders Association local affiliate (the Hudson Valley Builders and Remodelers Association (HVBRA) being one of the local affiliates) must sponsor the student and guarantee scholarship matching funds and applicants are responsible for contacting the local affiliate and ensuring all application materials are submitted.

William Morehouse:

As a member of the New York State Builders Association (NYSBA), William (Bill) Morehouse has provided members with insurance coverage for more than thirty‚Äźfive years. Bill served as Executive Officer of the Home Builders Association of Mohawk Valley for 30 years, along with providing complimentary office space for ten of those years. Bill’s generosity and ingenuity helped to initiate the NYSBA Research and Education Foundation.

As steward of an obsolete insurance trust, Bill approached NYSBA to discuss the possibility of utilizing the funds to seed an organization that would benefit the industry. As a result, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization Research and Education Foundation (REF), was formed.

A scholarship program was developed and became recognized amongst our local home builder affiliates. As a tribute to Bill’s commitment to the industry, the Research & Education Foundation scholarship program was named in his honor in recognition of his relentless dedication to the industry and members, along with acknowledging his stewardship, generosity and commitment to the future leaders of the industry.
