President's Message
The Builders Association of the Hudson Valley is once again facing a year of uncertainty and economic volatility. All who are in the industry are aware of the cyclical nature of housing in the Hudson Valley, and most have weathered down markets before.
But never has our Association been faced with such a promising opportunity of helping the market to gain solid ground, as we are this year. The Housing industry has always come back; in 2011 the Builders Association must, and will, prepare for its return.
To prepare for the return of residential construction to the Hudson Valley, we must recognize that Associate members are the key to our organization – both in manpower, and in economic resources. The Association will be ready to deliver them a return for their support and loyalty through this down cycle.
The Builder membership needs each other now more than ever for experience sharing, exchanging best practices, knowledgeable input for legislative and regulatory effectiveness, access to innovative ideas and market guidance.
The time to ‘hunker down’ and endure this economic storm has passed. For those that have fortunately made it through, now is the time to lend a hand, an ear, an hour, and a hammer to build the Association back to a level where we are a formidable resource and tool for every business owner who is touched by the residential construction industry; and a voice in the media, community and legislative arenas.
Home Building is one of the very few true manufacturing industries left in the United States that cannot be outsourced. This means we are a dependable source of local jobs, with profits that will be seen immediately in the local community, and providing a product that is ‘used’ locally. The economic and social benefits of a healthy housing industry are immense.
I encourage you to get involved, and exercise the professional responsibility we all have to each other. If you have remained involved – thank you, the Association is grateful. For those that haven’t yet had the opportunity to serve the Association and reap the benefits, please start now. It will not only be a benefit to you, but to the entire industry. Do good by doing good. Have a great 2011 – success starts here!
